Why the room loses you even when your English is correct.
Clarity is whether your meaning lands the first time. Not whether the grammar was right. Whether the room caught the point without working for it.
Too much context, competing points, a late main message: then one point, clear enough to reach the listener first time.
Three moments people recognise
Every word was right. The room still asked you to repeat it, and the second version was the one that counted.
The background came first, then the context, then the small conditions. By the time the point arrived, attention had moved on.
They nodded, the meeting moved forward, and the follow-up email showed they had understood something different.
What may be happening in the moment
The answer often comes out in the order it was thought of, which is not the order a listener needs. Demanding moments can make this stronger. The meaning is present. It is buried. Listeners will often do the digging when the speaker is senior and familiar. Across an accent, a video call, and a time zone, they stop digging.
This is why clarity is scored on the listener’s side, from the recording: could a busy person catch the point on first pass? That is a question we can score against a defined rubric, and it has nothing to do with vocabulary size.
How it is scored
The SignalCheck scores how reliably your meaning lands the first time: whether the point is findable, whether key terms land cleanly, and whether clarity holds when the pressure rises mid-answer.
The written report uses this same name for the dimension.
Clarity, scored on the same 100 point scale
The same bands are used in every session. Reassessment uses different situations at the same difficulty to show what improved and what still needs work.
SampleFive fixed bands
This dimension rarely travels alone.
Measure it, then work on it.
A SignalCheck scores this dimension alongside the other four, under the same conditions, on the same bands.
