Why you sound less senior in English than you are.
This dimension looks at whether your answer keeps its authority when someone challenges it. Does the point stay clear, direct and complete?
A challenge arrives. The delivery dips, recovers, and the point is held to its conclusion instead of being withdrawn.
Three moments people recognise
“Sorry, my English is not so good.” The content that followed was excellent. The room had already discounted it.
“Maybe we could possibly consider...” A firm position, softened until it sounded like a guess, was treated like one.
You paused to choose a word. The room read the pause as uncertainty about the answer, and a colleague filled it.
What may be happening in the moment
Rooms read confidence signals fast, often faster than they weigh the content. What we score is the delivery a person shows in their real work situations. Hedges, apologetic openers, rising intonation on statements and trailing endings all get decoded as doubt. A second-language speaker can produce more of these in demanding moments, often not because they doubt the answer, but because the delivery channel is carrying extra load.
The result can be a quiet mispricing: a strong engineer read as junior, meeting by meeting, while the engineer blames their English. The score helps separate what a person knows from how the message is landing.
How it is scored
The SignalCheck scores the markers a room actually uses: how statements open and close, what happens to the voice under challenge, and whether the delivery keeps its weight when a senior stakeholder pushes back.
The written report uses this same name for the dimension.
Confidence under pressure, scored on the same 100 point scale
The same bands are used in every session. Reassessment uses different situations at the same difficulty to show what improved and what still needs work.
SampleFive fixed bands
Measure it, then work on it.
A SignalCheck scores this dimension alongside the other four, under the same conditions, on the same bands.
