The rehearsed lines came out perfectly and sounded like rehearsed lines. When the follow-up question changed the frame, the answer could not change with it.
The explanation that could not adjust
The listener asked for the short version. The answer restarted from the top, in the same order, at the same length, because the wording was fixed before the meeting began.
The stock-phrase ceiling
Every answer built from the same safe phrases. Pace, emphasis and variation narrow until the delivery gives the room very little to read.
What may be happening in the moment
When working in English takes extra effort, delivery range is often the first thing to narrow. Speakers move to memorised wording, answers get shorter, variation in pace and emphasis drops, and adjusting an explanation mid-answer gets harder. The work is strong. The delivery does not show it.
The fix is not performance tricks. It is measuring how much range and adaptability remain available under pressure, then working on the situations where the range narrows.
